Shopper’s Diary: Daylesford Organic
September 4th, 2007
From Sarah:
On my annual trip to the UK this summer, I fell in love with Daylesford Organic’s flagship store in the heart of London’s Pimlico district. In the tradition of HRH the Prince of Wales’ Duchy Originals, the Bamford family (of construction-equipment billions) has founded an organic lifestyle enterprise of utmost refinement. Closely shadowing the Prince’s endeavor to create a “virtuous circle,” Daylesford stives to provide organic products while “helping to protect and sustain the countryside and wildlife.”
The Pimlico outpost is the height of eco chic, with a white marble interior and simple white wood benches. The mail floor is given over to a cafe and a wide array of organic food and produce, beautifully presented (check out the innovative packaging), while upstairs is the housewares section, offering an array of tasteful products for the bath and home. Particularly noteworthy is the specially commissioned Japanese paper-thin white pottery.
The burgeoning empire includes the Garden Store and the Gloucestershire compound with its series of stunningly stylish barns, as seen below. The online store is limited, but well worth investigating.
