One of all-time favorites design/hospitality enterprises, Atelier Ace (the team behind the Ace group of hotels), recently launched its newest “sub-label,” called Sister City in NYC. The 12-story hotel recently opened on the Bowery, a formerly gritty stretch in East Village that was a sometimes-dangerous no-man’s land (speaking from experience). Here’s a look.

Above: Above: The interior was inspired by Finnish saunas and Japanese bento boxes, the designers say. Above: The 11th-floor bar, called Last Light, has views of the city and two outdoor decks. Above: Rooms are compact but well thought out, with a space for everything. Above: A fold-down desk. Above: The TV is cleverly concealed. Above: The wall-mounted wardrobe has a Shaker look and feel.
