TUFTED SOFAS AND TUFTED CHAIRS
From Sarah:
This past summer, on my annual trip back to the UK, I noted a profusion of plush, grand Chippendale and Chesterfield sofas in fashionable venues. Seems the tufted sofa trend is crossing the pond. Note the ornate carved sofa featured in the otherwise minimalist interiors in the Architect Visit post below. And last week, the NY Times wrote about the proliferation of gentleman’s club style in NYC; here in San Francisco, the newly opened restaurant Fish and Farm, designed by Sheri Sheridan of Swallowtail, features a wraparound Chesterfield banquette:

The Ilse Crawford–designed Restaurant Mathias Dahlgren in the Grand Hotel Stockholm, newly opened in spring 2007, with velvet Chesterfield banquette:

Recreate the look with Anthropolgie’s Corrigan tufted chair (below left) in bell pepper leather; $1,998; and button-tufted Milo sofa (below right); $3,498 from anthropologie.com:

Brocade Home’s tufted linen sectional sofa; $999 at brocadehome.com:

Tom Dixon’s dramatic take on the wingback chair in mohair velvet, a staple at London’s fashionable Shoreditch House; for information, go to tomdixon.net

George Smith’s hand-crafted Elizabeth tufted sofa, a more modern take on the Chesterfield, is upholstered in cream Panama tweed linen and is currently on sale for $5,540 at georgesmith.com
