“Proof that everyday life items don’t have to be boring:” New from Danish company Skagerak are five kitchen and living essentials designed with functionality and longevity in mind. “The materials we use—oak, leather and brass—are all natural and selected because of their sturdy features and Nordic feelings,” says Ditte Buus Nielsen, designer of many of the items. “It is important to us that the design we bring to life is made to last for generations. That they can be used over and over again, with the same good experience every time.” Here’s a look:
Above: The new Norr Tray (549.95 DKK, or $87.80) is made of oak and leather that will patinate over time. It’s available in a black-painted finish as well. A smaller version, the Norr Tray 21×35, is 399.95 DKK, or $63.85. Above: The Norr Paper Towel Holder, available in black or oak, is cleverly simple: “The edge at the base keeps the paper from unravelling, and the leather strap is both charming and practical, making it easy to move the holder.” It’s 349.95 DKK ($55.87) for oak and 399.95 DKK ($63.85) for black. Above: The Norr Box is newly available in a black-painted finish, in addition to the original untreated oak. With a brass handle, it can serve as a caddy for bringing spices and condiments to the table, or store them on the countertop. It’s 649.95 DKK ($103.76) for the untreated oak and 699.95 DKK ($111.74) for black. Above: The Norr Tray, in black, serves breakfast in bed. Above: The oak and brass Norr Magazine Holder has a leather ribbon that holds books and periodicals in place (1,495 DKK, or $238.67). Newly available is the longer Norr Magazine Holder 120 (1,995 DKK, or $318.49). Both are only available in oak. Above: The Norr Bread Box, at left, is made of untreated oak with leather handles that “allow you to bring it with you into the garden or wherever you need it.” The lid doubles as a cutting board.
