When you’re moving on from Ikea but not ready to invest in the ultimate dream sofa, something straightforward, modern but comfortable, and versatile works best for your first “real” sofa. We like those with more feather than foam, and when possible, manufactured in the US (some on our list are). For that, you’ll have to spend a little money, but not so much as to break the bank. Here are our favorites for under or around $3,000.
Above: Sofas from Cisco Brothers are made with hardwood frames and feather/down/fiberfill. They’re made to order in Los Angeles. The Cisco Brothers Louis Linen Slipcovered Sofa is 90 inches for $3,248, a little over the $3,000 mark but worth noting for its US manufacturing and quality. Above: From new sofa company Maiden Home, the Sullivan Sofa has a wood frame, goose down, fiberfill, and hand-tied springs, and comes in 37 fabric/color options and four wood finish options; $2,475 for the 90-inch size. Above: The Interior Define Miles Slipcovered Sofa comes in a range of sizes up to 91 inches (shown in 75 inches) and fabric types; $1,900 for the 91-inch sofa at Interior Define. Above: From Article, a company formerly named Bryght, the Sitka Sofa, shown in Thunder Gray but available in two other colors as well, is $1,399. It’s made with a wood frame and fabric fill and measure 99 inches long. Above: ABC Carpet & Home’s 94-inch long Cobble Hill Slipped Watermill Grand Sofa has a wood frame, cotton slipcover, and a recycled fiber and feather down fill; on sale for $1,841.25 (down from $2,455) at ABC Carpet & Home. Above: The TRNK Truss Sofa, shown in Clavicle, is made-to-order in the US and can be customized in fabric, color, and frame choices. It rings in a little above our max at $3,250 at TRNK. The sofa is also available in ivory cotton for $2,750. Above: The Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams Hunter Long Slipcovered Sofa, shown in denim and measuring 90 inches, is $2,968 at the Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams club price. Above: The Sixpenny Neva Modular 3-Piece Sofa is filled with feather down and comes in a range of fabric and color choices; $2,599 at Sixpenny. Above: Crate & Barrel’s Willow Sofa is a straightforward sofa made in North Carolina; $1,899 at Crate & Barrel. Above: The Joybird Bryant Sofa comes in a range of fabric and color choices for $2,299 at Joybird. Above: One of our favorite Swedish shops, Artilleriet, recently released its own line of sofas, so for EU readers, the 3-Seat Belleville Sofa rings in close to our price point, a little above at 26,400 SEK (or $3,215 USD) at Artilleriet.
