Admired recently on a Swedish blog: a color-blocked black-and-white bath with a Gothic edge. Traditional fittings and pharmacy-inspired cabinets mix effortlessly with modern lighting, including a black spidery chandelier. Here’s how to replicate the look:

Above: A bathroom that crosses the border between old and new, upright and playful (with a hint of dark humor). Photograph via Hannas Room.

Above: A similar color-blocking effect was used in a farmhouse kitchen painted with Benjamin Moore’s Ben Interior Paint in Black Horizon; $36.99 a gallon.

Above: Autoban’s 224D Double Octopus Chandelier is made from hinged aluminum rods that can be positioned at different angles. In addition to black, it’s available in red, white, blue and turquoise; contact manufacturer De La Espada for pricing and local retailers.

Above: Restoration Hardware’s Whitby Medicine Cabinet has a black-stained oak frame with a Georgian arch; $395 (small) and $495 (large).

Above: The Artemide Tolomeo Classic Wall Lamp designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina adjusts at five points for a variety of illumination possibilities; $305 from Lumens.

Above: Waterworks’ Metal Six Leg Double Washstand from the BLP collection features a Carrara marble counter and shelf, and tubular nickel legs with spherical joints; $3,675 from Waterworks.

Above: Elements of Design ES1431PL Deck Mount Lavatory Faucet is available in four finishes (polished chrome shown here) for $179.37 through eFaucets. For more, visit 10 Easy Pieces: Traditional Deck-Mounted Bath Faucets.

Above: The Pharmacy Bath Tall Cabinet is a reproduction of a 19th-century pharmacy cabinet with a black enamel-coated steel frame (also available in white), zinc hardware, and tempered glass; $1,395 from Restoration Hardware.

Above: The Shag Bath Towel has a long-loop terry pile and measures 27-by-51 inches; $50 from Matteo Home. For more, see 10 Easy Pieces: Basic White Bath Towels.

Above: Neisha Crosland’s Haveli Thunder and Haveli Boomerang Tiles are hand painted on matte-glazed terra-cotta for £21.60 per square meter (25 tiles). Also peruse our post 5 Favorite Italian Tile Makers and see more of Crosland’s work in Artful Tiles from an English Textile Designer.

Above: The Aerie Medium Accent Table is made from handwoven steel wire that is powder coated in bronze. It measures 19 inches in diameter and about 19 inches tall; $169 from Crate & Barrel.
