Washington, DC-based interior designer Darryl Carter pays homage to the history of his 19th century farmhouse in Virginia by using exposed lathing as a rustic design element in the bathroom and under the stairway (instead of plastering over the lathing). In the foyer, Carter painted the lathing the same color as the walls (a basic off-the-shelf Benjamin Moore white); in the bath, he left the wood unpainted for a rougher look.
