Peggy Wang, editorial director at Buzzfeed, worked with a friend, designer Keren Richter of White Arrow, to renovate her Ridgewood, Queens, row house. The two wanted something brighter, updated, and cost-efficient. The kitchen checks all the boxes: bright blue cabinets (Ikea with custom fronts) and modern appliances. “We found the top-notch appliances [a Bertazzoni oven, panel-ready Bosch dishwasher, and Sub-Zero fridge] on Craigslist,” Richter says. Here’s a full breakdown of the look, with sources to match.
Above: The walls are painted with Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White. Above: Farrow & Ball’s Hague Blue No. 30 Paint is the bright blue color on the cabinets; $110 for a gallon of Estate Emulsion. Above: The base cabinet that coordinates with the apron front farmhouse sink is Ikea’s Sektion Base Cabinet One Bowl Sink ($170) fitted with a custom front to accommodate the sink from Scherr’s. Above: The Ikea Sektion Base Cabinet with two shelves and doors is behind the custom cabinet fronts (also from Scherr’s). The base cabinet is $203 at Ikea.
Above: Peggy has a stock of Handmade Short White Mugs from Brooklyn-based Workaday in her kitchen; $44 each. (If you’re in New York City, you can test the exaggerated handles out at De Maria in SoHo.) Above: Source similar mixing bowls to those in the kitchen from Replacements. The vintage Friendship Blue Stripe 7-Inch Mixing Bowl is $52.46. Above: For something similar to the vintage spongeware pitcher and teapot in the kitchen, a Classic Spongeware Pitcher can be found for $98 from Tory Burch. Above: The Morandi Black Small Bud Vase is $18 at Canvas. Above: The Large Thick Cutting Board, hand-carved from fallen wood in Mexico for ABC Carpet & Home, is $270.
