10 Easy Pieces: Gallery-Style Picture Frames

Janet Hall April 25, 2012

Here's a roundup of our favorite off-the-rack gallery-style picture frames. If you've got a preferred economical frame source, we'd love to hear about it.

Above: Made of solid hardwood, the Wood Gallery Single Opening Frames from Pottery Barn are available in black or white with a white mat, or in espresso with an off-white mat. The frames are currently on sale for $16 to $56. We like the Set of Three Wood Gallery Single Opening Frames for $56 (they're usually $69). The three frames measure 6 by 14 inches, 7 by 15 inches, and 10 by 18 inches.

Above: Ribba frames from Ikea have a 1 3/4-inch profile, are made of fiberboard, come with PH-neutral mats, and are available in white or black (some of the larger sizes come in additional finishes, including a high gloss gray, medium brown, and aluminum). The 9-Inch-Square Ribba Picture Frame is $9.99.

Above: The Large Rectangular Ribba Picture Frame is 28 1/4 inches tall by 20 1/2 inches wide; $19.99 at Ikea.

Above: The CB2 Gallery Frames feature aluminum frames with white mats; prices range from $19.95 to $39.95.

Above: West Elm's Gallery Frames accommodate standard US photo sizes. Made of composite wood, the frames are available in black, white, or a silver-paint finish, and with a removable white mat (the larger frames in silver come with a natural linen mat). Some of the sizes also come in a mirrored frame. Prices range from $12 for a 6-by-8-inch frame to $69 for the mirrored 18-by-18-inch frame.

Above: Room & Board's Profile Frames are available in solid wood (walnut, black lacquer, white lacquer) or aluminum (with a silver or gunmetal finish). Available in five sizes, including the 8-by-10-inch Black Profile Frame for $69 and the 11-inch-square Walnut Profile Frame for $79. Prices range from $49 to $99, depending on size and finish.

Above: Walnut Box Frames are made with walnut veneer and a white engineered wood mat. The rectangular picture frame measures 17.25 by 15.25 inches and is available with two mat options—one with a 5-by-7-inch opening and one with an 8-by-10-inch opening. There is also a 16-by-16-inch square frame, with a 12-by-12-inch mat opening; $49.95 at CB2.

Above: For a natural look, Blick Gallery Bamboo Frames are available in light or dark bamboo and in fifteen sizes (from the 6-by-6 inch to the 30-by-40 inch frame); prices range from $9.90 to $76.99.

Above: Crate & Barrel's Brushed Silver 5-by-7-Inch Wall Frame features a brushed stainless steel frame and an off-white mat; $24.95.

Above: If you're looking to add a dash of color to your gallery, consider Blick Gallery Spectrum Frames, which are available in eight colors, including red and black (as shown). Available in 11 sizes and ranging in price from $9.79 to $28.49.
