Shopper's Diary: Trove Laguna Beach

From Julie

For the slightly louche, bohemian look, a la Julian Schnabel's public spaces for the Gramercy Park Hotel and Roman & Williams' lobby for the Royalton Hotel; characterful antiques with a slightly decadent edge; go to Trove Laguna.

I love this last image...I'm in the process of redoing our apartment and asked my husband if he liked this look...love the painted floors, we've been leaning toward doing that. Great link too!

This is an incredible shop! I live in New York and have had the luxury of shopping at Trove several times. This place will not disappoint. I've never seen a shop that was able to pull off such juxtapositions and remain so soulful! Can't wait to visit again.

I had to go see what all the hype was about at TROVE. All I can say is WOW! This place is incredible. It it one of the few remaining antique stores (or is it a gallery or a museum??) that is remaining cutting edge despite the state of the economy. You won't find anything safe here. I have their website bookmarked because it is so inspiring. Check it out if you don't live in the area. If you do, get there as often as you can, even if it only for inspiration. But, I doubt anyone will be able to leave empty handed. Hands down one of the best antique stores there is--up there with Blackman Cruz and Obsolete.

Worse Experience in my Life!!

First, I want to be clear that I didn't purchase anything from this store and can't comment to the quality, price, or anything about what Trove sells (other than it isn't anything I personally would purchase).

I did engage one of the owners for home design services. For many reasons, it just didn't work out. I thought I would be able to get most of my money back after we mutually agreed to terminate the contract. But instead, the owner felt he was entitled to keep 100% of my hard earn money (which I foolishly paid up front) despite not providing any tangible services in return (after nearly two months went by). It was the worse experience in my entire life and this person ruin what should have been a happy time during a purchase of my first new home. I have been traumatized by the entire experience and will never trust any home designer or a small independent store again. Where I come from back in NYC, this business would never survive after treating customers this way (word travels fast in the Big Apple). Anyhow, I can't possibly recommend this business.
