Palette & Paints: Farrow & Ball Gray

Issue 10 · European Sensibilities · March 9, 2010

On a recent visit to Blackman Cruz in LA, we found ourselves admiring the gray-painted walls. Proprietor Adam Blackman was kind enough to clue us in to the exact provenance of the paint: Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe. While we love Farrow & Ball, we realize the products are not necessarily budget-priced, so we contacted our go-to resource for paint, Philip Reno of Philip's Perfect Colors in San Francisco. His recommendation? Pratt & Lambert Stone's Throw—a similar, and cheaper, alternative. See below for details.
