Yesterday's utilitarian doormat roundup got me thinking about indoor mats; one of the best sources I know of is Swedish company Pappelina, which makes durable floor mats woven in Scandinavia from 50 percent recycled plastic strips.

Above: The Pappelina Vera Runner is available from Magdalena York; $224 for the 88-inch-long mat.

Above: The large (180 by 230 cm) Vera One Rug is great for kitchens, high traffic areas, and play spaces; $367 at Scandinavian Design Center.

Above: We also like the 100 percent cotton Vera Kitchen Towel; $10.64 at Scandanavian Design Center.

I love these rugs but I think there is a much more fun line in stripes from Magdalenayorkcollection.
I bought 2 from them and they are fabulous. You can also pick your own colors and have one custom made.
It takes a bit long. 8 weeks or so but it's worth it. Saw them on the Today's Show sometimes last year and I think they are a great although a bit expensive for plastic. I washed them many times in the machine and they look like new everytime they come out from the machine.
