Kitchen of the Week: Going Big with Color in a Small Space

April 22, 2021

Not everyone wants a huge kitchen with fancy equipment and built-in everything. Take the owners of this Victorian home (currently for sale on The Modern House) in the Ferndale neighborhood of London. According to designer Adam Bray, who took them on as clients when they decided to renovate, character and efficiency were the priorities.

Prior to the update, the kitchen “was perfectly nice, inherited from the previous owner,” says Adam. “But the clients wanted to make it their own.” To them, that meant a kitchen with personality and “a feeling of not being too ‘fitted,’ which is why we used a big antique cupboard as a larder.”

Let’s take a tour to see what other personal touches they instituted.

The client had been very bold with the color palette in the rest of the house, and it would have been a shame to lose confidence in the kitchen!” says Adam, of the custom rust-red on the cabinets. On the walls is a peachy SC240 from Papers and Paints.
