Hard-Working Canvas Bags—Made in Chicago

Izabella Simmons July 23, 2012

Our love for canvas bags continues—this time we found them in Chicago, hand-sewn from post-industrial recycled canvas.

Winter Session, a workshop located in the northern part of the Windy Cit,y is a love story between couple Roy Katz and Tanya Fleisher. They first met during an art class in high school and continued a long-distance relationship via letters, drawings, and poems until they reconnected seven years later in LA. After architecture work in India, they finally settled in Chicago, and Winter Session took shape. Their mission: to make utilitarian high-quality products using sustainable and recycled materials. Their collection includes bags, wallets, cases, and aprons. Here are a few of our favorites at offer through Winter Session (also see Shopper's Diary: Aprons from Winter Session in Chicago).

Above: The Garrison Bag in Natural/Flame is made from heavy-duty recycled canvas with leather handles; $264.

Above: The Garrison bag features hand-stitched handles made from vegetable tanned leather that are attached with solid copper rivets.

Above: The Garrison bag is available in several color combinations; shown above in Sage/Natural with dark gray leather handles; $265.

Above: The Billie Roll-Up is a carrying case for your small tools and accessories. It is available in olive, gray, and navy; $65.
