Donald Kaufman is the original paint mixologist, a pioneer in the field of architectural color with more than thirty years of research on the equation of color and space and light. His luminous signature paints are now available to homeowners through Pratt & Lambert in more than 100 colors, including 20 new shades and four acrylic finishes; a gallon costs $85 to $100. Kaufman uses up to a dozen pigments to create his paints, compared to most paint companies, which use just three pigments. I’ve been a Donald Kaufman fan for years because of the handsome books he’s written with Taffy Dahl. Those books are older now, but his aesthetic is classic and his color sense still wows me.
I am a big fans of his paints; they are truly luminous and sublimely beautiful. I have them throughout my home.
He used to have his paints in a Benjamin Moor base I believe, although I believe that you can get them mixed up in the superb Dutch paint they sell at Fine Paints of Europe, which is what Donald Kaufman uses for many of his private, custom, clients.
