Shopper’s Diary: Scout Hardware and Bakesale Betty in Oakland

April 26, 2010

Located in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland, Scout Hardware stocks a good selection of retro-oriented items for the home: galvanized metal planters, hooks, wire baskets, as well as Mythic Zero-VOC paint (owner P. Scott Silvera also has a sideline as an interior designer). As an added bonus, Scout is next door to Bakesale Betty, a wildly popular bakery and lunch spot founded by Australian-born Chez Panisse alum Alison Barakat.

Below: Bakesale Betty is a bakery and lunch spot founded by Australian-born Chez Panisse alum Alison Barakat; we especially like the repurposed ironing boards used as outdoor dining tables.
