Handcrafted cutlery with handles made of apple branches, so reminiscent of deep woods and wilderness, they could be from the set of Moonrise Kingdom, all by Melbourne, Australia, craftsman and photographer Jaccob McKay. Here’s a look at the collection, ideal for camping or the kitchen.
Above: The Branch Cheese Knife, $19 AUD, features a handle made of an apple branch (sourced from fallen limbs from the Yarra Ranges outside of Melbourne) and a UK-made Sheffield stainless steel blade. McKay suggests using the knife for “cutting fruits, cheeses, and meats” and for peeling citrus. Above: The Branch Cheese Cleaver, $39 AUD, comes with a drawstring pouch and is multipurpose, ideal for camping. Above: The Branch Cheese Axe, $79 AUD, also comes with a drawstring pouch. McKay suggests packing the multipurpose tool when camping. Above: A detail of the joinery. Above: The cheese knife’s Sheffield blade. Above: The long-handled Branch Spoon, $15 AUD, is suitable for “a forest picnic, getting jam out of long jars, or for adding sugar to your tea.” Above: The full Cheese Knife Set includes the Axe, Cleaver, and Knife; $120 AUD.
