Object of Desire: Atelier NL ZandGlas Stamped Glassware

June 11, 2019

We’ve been fans of Atelier NL in the Netherlands for a while now (see Atelier NL Tableware at DWR); we’re currently obsessed with their newish ZandGlas line of glassware, made from sand collected from dunes, beaches, rivers, deserts, mountains, and sandpits. Founders Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck are focused on “developing products that showcase the richness of the earth and the value of local raw materials,” as they say. “Atelier NL speaks to the subtleties of the natural world by reshaping raw earth elements into tangible, everyday objects.”

Here’s a look (the glass pieces are available individually or as a set, directly from Atelier NL):

The ZandGlas #4 set is made from sand of the Maasvlakte, a harbor near the city of Rotterdam; €560 from Atelier NL.

The ZandGlas #3 set is made from sand collected from Nationaal Park de Loonse en Drunense Duinen; the set, €560 from Atelier NL, is currently sold out, but you could buy each piece individually, starting at €86 for the small glass.
