- Marie wrote in to tell us about a June 10th workshop at Brooklyn Botanic Garden about upcoming urban forestry projects in NYC: “On Earth Day this year, the city stopped accepting new street tree requests on its 311 site. Because the Parks Department has suffered even more budget cuts, that greening program, essential to cool a heating city, has been halted. It is now up to privately funded entities to plant and care for most of the trees in NYC, whose trees are one of its greatest and most visible assets.”
