When it comes to quietly beautiful storage, we look to Japanese outfit Fog Linen, always: they have an uncanny way of making the simplest hook glamorous. Recently, a scan of their site revealed a few well-made brass shelves and hooks, worthy additions to a long-admired collection of brass hangers, hooks, and rods (many of which we included in The Organized Home book). Fan, Julie, and I are all coveting the new additions. Here’s a glimpse:
Above: Our favorite new find: the petite Brass Shelf, with a slim ledge and a rod to keep everything in place. We could picture it in the kitchen; in the bath, corralling small jars of cotton balls and toiletries; or elsewhere, holding a simple bud vase or a candle. It could even serve as a tiny bedside ledge. The shelf is $65 and includes four screws. Above: Storage at its simplest: the hand-made Large Brass Single Hook, at left, and Small Brass Single Hook, at right, are “useful in the kitchen, bathroom, closet, and more.” The large measures in at a still-petite five inches high and costs $11; the small is three inches high and retails for $8. (Not pictured: the Medium Brass Single Hook, which measures at four inches high and costs $9).
Fog Linen notes that, as with all brass, “irregularities in finish will occur.” The wear is part of the charm: to maintain the brass, simply wipe clean, polishing optional.
