The brainchild of Polletin and hotelier Gerold Schneider, the Allmeinde Commongrounds in Austria is a converted barn that functions as a meeting place, gallery, cultural center, and base for artist residencies. I saw this house in a magazine. It's lovely. Very warm without becoming suffocating. Difficult with kids though (sound).
I write this post sitting in an 1820 chalet in Verbier Switzerland, after a week of skiing. I too have seen this building in Marie Claire Maison, and while I can admire its aesthetic purity, I would need to see how it works in practice -- as a gallery, meeting room and artist residence -- before passing judgement. It does not strike me as very practical in an alpine environment, but I could be wrong.
