Fabrics & Linens: Tea Towels for the Edible Schoolyard

November 22, 2011

Forty years ago, Alice Waters opened Chez Panisse with the simple idea of serving local, organic food; revolutionary then, more commonplace now. Ever since, she has been a trailblazer for "real food" campaigns, quietly changing the way we think about food today. Her pet project these days is The Edible Schoolyard, located in Berkeley’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Middle School. The nonprofit's mission is to teach and involve students in sustainable gardening by preparing, serving, and eating the greens they plant. Last year Waters asked Jann Cheifitz, a textile designer and owner of Lucky Fish, to design a fundraising tea towel; the tea towel was a hit, good news for us, since it can now be purchased from the Lucky Fish home collection.
