Recently, a friend was lamenting the “patina” left on her pale wood dining table (a table that, by the way, is an investment piece by any measure). That time a guest left a ring stain, the scratches now obvious in its whitewashed finish. Maybe pale wood has had its day in the sun? In contrast, tobacco-colored walnut and smoked oak are looking pretty good—and durable. Here, we’ve rounded up our favorite wood benches for the dining room.
Above: The Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. Bench is made in a dark oiled oak; $760 at March. Above: From Pinch Design the Imo Benches comes in oiled oak (shown) or a mix of an oak top and walnut base; $1,935 at the Future Perfect or at Pinch in the UK. Above: Sawkille’s Mortise Bench, shown in American Black Walnut (bleached, oiled—shown—or ebonized) starts at $5,000 at Sawkille. Above: Ilse Crawford of Studioilse makes the Bench as part of its Seating for Eating collection. It’s often photographed in Danish oiled oak, but also comes in darker woods such as walnut, shown, starting at $1,270 at the Future Perfect or at the Conran Shop in the UK. Above: The Gabriel Tan Brethren Seating Collection Bench in solid oak or walnut (shown) is £695 ($917) at the Conran Shop in the UK. Above: Room & Board’s Adams Bench is available in a range of woods. Shown here in walnut for $429 at Room & Board. Above: Designed by Neri & Hu for De La Espada the Commune Bench is $2,200 at the Future Perfect. Above: The Pirkka Bench is designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Artek; $1,225 at Matter in New York City. Above: The Wood Bench designed by Barber & Osgerby for Vitra comes in oiled oak, smoked oak, and American walnut; £1,290 ($1,700) at Twenty Twenty-One. Shopping for dining benches? See our posts:
