This post was pure serendipity! We are planning a trip to Scandinavia, and were looking for charming places to stay -- this hotel is exactly the sort of place we are looking for.
Are there any more special places like this that you are aware of? I have been searching, and I am sure that they are out there, but I just have not been finding them...
We *did* go in the summer of 2008, and it was our best vacation ever!
The kitchen pictured above is actually a guest kitchen; each family or couple has a drawer for their foodstuffs (and whatever space they can stake out in the fridge), and are able to make their lunches and dinners. This kitchen is upstairs next to the guest rooms, and everyone is welcome to bring their food down to the dining/common area (with the Eames chairs) or outside in the courtyard.
It is a great idea to make this available to guests!
The main kitchen, used to cook breakfasts and the twice-weekly communal dinners is reserved for Jakob and Susanne.
They designed both areas, and had the units custom-made. They are coated with some sort of oil, which allows them to stay matte and very natural, but discourages water damage and stains (there was none next to the sink or stove, despite all the guest use!)
Jakob and Susanne are professional designers, and their work can be found at
