An essential stop on any visit to Portland, Maine: the flagship store of Rogues Gallery, founded by Alex Carlton, purveyor of the nautical hipster aesthetic (read about Carlton’s recent appointment as creative director of the new L. L. Bean Signature line in the NY Times). All props are for sale, including furniture pieces sourced and rehabbed by Carlton (a wing chair upholstered in brown linen, for instance), a tablecloth made from heavyweight vintage linen grain sacks, and hand-painted canvas floor mats.
