Shopper's Diary: Frozen Fountain in Amsterdam

On a recent trip to Amsterdam, I stopped in at the must-see design shop Frozen Fountain, located on the picturesque Prisengracht district, facing a canal. Owners Cok de Rooy and Dick Dankers offer a range of international furniture lines with an emphasis on Dutch designers such as Piet Hein Eek, Claudy Jongstra, Studio Job, Marcel Wanders, and Hella Jongerius. Wares are casually displayed in the sprawling, two-level space. I lingered for nearly an hour, admiring the abundance of homegrown talent.

these folks understand display.
My wife and I were in Amsterdam in November and spent a good 45 minutes in this store. One of the best design stores I've ever spent time in - consistent excellent presentation of some very hip work. And speaking of outstanding presentation of great design, the museum store at the Art Institute of Chicago is the bet museum store in the states (not that one has anything to do with the other, but I was just there two weeks ago and was blown away by the selection and layout).
