San Francisco architect John Maniscalco transformed a dilapidated and dark period home in San Francisco's Cole Valley neighborhood into a light-filled, livable family residence. "The existing house’s dignified façade and massing were maintained, refined, and carefully added to," he says. "The house was reorganized around a unifying vertical stair core, backed by a wall of glass, flooding all floors with light while providing a vertical spatial connection for the entire house. The interiors were designed to provide a clean, light, and airy background to the rich colors and textures of the owner’s furnishing, art, and textiles." N.B. A new project by John Maniscalco Architects is on the AIA 2009 San Francisco Living Home Tour on September 13th.
