Objects & Environment Photo: Elizabeth Felicella
We, at Studio Bartleby, hold fast to a set of preferences which allow us to do our best work: beauty over ugliness; good over cool; making over shopping; local business over anonymous business. We prefer to connect budget, material, and labour, to produce objects and environments of true value. We prefer to embrace how our clients wish to use their private space, from how it looks during a grand party, to how it feels when fixing toast for one. Ultimately, we aim to translate that sense of pleasure derived from a perfect fit and nice thing.
Originally from Malaysia, principal designer, Mary L Chan studied English Literature at Edinburgh University and Vassar College prior to receiving her interior design degree from Parsons. She has been on the teaching faculty of Parsons and The New York School of Interior Design, as well as a guest critic at the Pratt Institute.
