When Carla and Niall Maher bought a 1950 suburban ranch house in Westchester, New York, the couple made a commitment to midcentury style.
Built into a hillside among other midcentury houses by Roy S. Johnson and Stanley Torkleson, the house was sheetrocked and whitewashed by previous owners (and an Ikea kitchen to boot).

Carla and Niall stripped the cedar wall paneling of white paint and finished it with Minwax Red Oak Interior Stain; $7.96 for a quart via Amazon.

The Modernica chest of drawers that Carla sourced is no longer available.
The Alvar Aalto Stool 60 with a linoleum black top is $219 at the Finnish Design Shop.
The original Arne Jacobsen AJ Wall Lamp for Louis Poulsen in yellow-green (shown) is hard to come by, but the light comes in 10 different colors from the Danish Design Store for $664.70 each.
