The ageless appeal of the J110 is why Danish house Hay decided to re-introduce this and other chairs by Poul M. Volther when he was part of the FDB cooperative (The Danish Consumers’ Co-operative Society). Poul eschewed trendiness, focusing on the ideal of functionalism above all else. A decade after he joined the studio, he was appointed director. High-quality design and an accessible price was FDB’s mission by way of transferring production to industrial means. Made of beech, the J110 suggests a lounge chair but its seat is the same height as other dining chairs making it an ideal choice.
