A handwoven wool Heriz area rug. The antique rug has a central lobed medallion in tones of ivory, rust and blue on a rust-toned field densely populated with foliate and geometric elements in similar tones, with two tone turquoise spandrels having large leaf motifs. It has a double geometric and floral guard border in tones of blue, rust, greys and golds framing a dark navy main border with a palmette and carnation pattern. It has a short warp fringe to either end. The rug is unmarked.
