Have you noticed? Suddenly everyone, on Instagram and in design shops and on the runway, seems to be paying attention to their socks. What’s the deal?

Socks might be the most basic of accessories, but they also have the power to add just a bit of pattern or color to an outfit, visible (beneath clogs or heels) or hidden, a secret joy just for the wearer.

Just a few pairs we’d like to add to our (otherwise pretty neutral) wardrobes, for a midwinter change-up:
