We were dubious, we confess, when one of our favorite designers raved on about his treasure trove of reclaimed wood from sunken ships. Its patina, he said, radiates softly like thick layers of satin, while its aged density and strength give it a nobility all its own. To prove his point, he showed us this bench, hand-wrought from a no-longer sailing vessel. We sat on it, ran our palm along its deeply rich grain and examined its simple, perfectly angled lines. “Land, ho!” we exclaimed. Our sailor lingo needs work, we admit, but we hope we manage to convey our full-throttle enthusiasm for this spectacular, rare piece of heirloom furniture for porch, patio, or any interior. Assembly required.
