We have found four talented young designers from Yojkkaichi in Japan to create our astonishing Ashton Banko-Yaki oven-to-tableware collection. Based on a traditional old English casserole pot design, they are available in black and white, freezer safe and can be used on electric and gas hobs as well as in the oven. They are light, very versatile and refined enough for the dining table.
Banko-Yaki was first used to craft Japanese teapots over 260 years ago. It was the first ceramic kitchenware to use clay fired with a mineral combination known as Petalite. It is highly prized for its enormously improved strength, safety and heat resistance. The name, Banko, is believed to have come from the seal "Banko Fueki", which means eternity. The founder of this tradition put this seal on his work wishing that these pieces should be handed down forever.
