Rafe Churchill crafts traditional buildings inspired by the historic architecture of New England. Working from a historic house on the village green in Sharon, Connecticut, a talented team of designers guides each project through the entire building process, from preliminary design through construction oversight. The firm is well versed in sustainable building practices and standards—seamlessly combining the latest technologies with traditional building techniques, resulting in buildings that are as beautiful as they are functional.
As a third-generation master builder, Rafe continues a family legacy of traditional craftsmanship and draws upon a broad network of consultants, artisans, and tradesmen. In recent years, he has designed and built many of southern New England’s finest residential and commercial spaces, including both the first LEED-certified house and the first Net Zero house in western Connecticut. In addition to residential buildings, Rafe’s experience includes challenging and unique projects such as building the Salisbury Winter Sports Association’s new 65-meter ski jump.
Typically focused exclusively on traditional residential design, Rafe’s experience as a master builder is evident with each project. While guided by the aesthetic awareness of a mature designer, he creates historically influenced buildings that respond to both the landscape and the specific needs of each client. The firm aspires to create what has become known as the “new old houseâ€â€”a building offering modern amenities, but with the scale, proportions, and textures of a historic house.
