Steal This Look: Instant Office Space

May 22nd, 2008

From Janet:

I love the simple, utilitarian feel of this office space pictured in BluePrint Magazine. Get the look with the following elements:

Below: Start with Ikea’s Vika System Table. Made of solid wood, it is adjustable to different positions for a flat or angled table top. Shelf in the trestle legs offers additional storage spot. $149 for 55-inch length shown.

Below: Vitra’s 1950-designed Prouve Potence Lamp consists of a single metal rod that extends almost seven feet from a wall-mounted vertical bracket. The wood ball-ended handle moves the entire lamp laterally to illuminate a 180-degree range of space. $1460 at Design Within Reach.

Below: Another appealing light is the Gus Design Group Vintage Swing Arm Lamp. With a reach of just over four feet from the wall, it can be operated by a footswitch, and includes mounting hardware and a vintage-inspired filament light bulb. $495 from Design Public.

Below: The Classic Hans Wegner c20 Elbow chair in black lacquer finish (pictured in oak) available at Hive Modern for $1005.

Below: The Hippie Armchair is a great budget alternative. $169 at CB2.

Below: For the practical splash of color atop the desk, we like the Office Basics Letter Trays at See Jane Work. Available in many colors for $15.50 each. See our list of desk essentials to complement the look.

Below: To create the notice board look above, simply loop ribbon around a piece of fiberboard at various intervals (and hot glue to the back). Use Bulldog Clips ($5.75 a tin at See Jane Work) to attach your notes to the ribbons. See our earlier post, Work Week: Pin Up, for more notice board ideas.

I really appreciate the budget alternatives offered here. Everything you guys feature on Remodelista is absolutely exquisite, of course — but more often than not the prices are completely out of reach for us mere mortals.
