From Janet:
Another case of “I wish I lived back in the UK” struck me when I came across Otto Furniture’s Pause Desk. Pause is a system of shelving and storage options designed by Otto’s Simon Howkins for living room and home office situations.
Below: Pause two-drawer desk with a list price of £2241. Go to Otto Furniture for more information .

This is kind of what I mean … The desk is gorgeous and the design quite clever, but are there people out there who would seriously spend the equivalent of $4,500 for a relatively simple wooden box with two integrated wooden planks?
Please don’t get me wrong, Remodelista — I love love love you. But these are the kinds of posts that make me feel like maybe I’m the only person reading who doens’t have a trust fund and unlimited money to drop on furnishings and accessories.
I love good design, but why does so much of it have to be so obscenely priced? It makes me sad.
Thanks for letting me vent,
Leah

Leah-
There are dozens of websites only showing the cheaper stuff but very few who edit things out to find the real gems, regardless of price. I like the mix of the IKEA and the super high end…if you aren’t in the market for the $4500 desk, just relax and enjoy the inspiration and the fun of seeing what’s out there.
Some of the best interiors I see on Flickr are younger people getting inspired and thinking outside the box with design…
BTW, the higher price tag is often extraordinary quality and workmanship that isn’t always evident in tiny pictures on the internet. Plus, highly original pieces have a strong resale value and become “buys for life”.
Don’t be depressed–we’re here to have fun!
