Description from Golden Biscotti

The first straws were indeed made of straw and were produced in Switzerland primarily at the Aargau Freiamt as a cottage industry. Today in Switzerland there is only a few cereal manufacturers which still harvests the straw manually, primarily for weaving. This is reason enough to give a new lease of life to the natural product that has become rather forgotten
For the production of drinking straws, the straw is harvested by hand with a sickle just before it ripens. It is then dried, cut to the right length and packaged in a low-germ environment.
Each straw is unique in its shape and colour nuance and also an ecological alternative to conventional plastic straws.
