English Country-inspired Estate in New Hope, Pennsylvania

In late 2020, our clients made the big decision to purchase their dream country house in beautiful New Hope, Pennsylvania. Just an hour outside of Philadelphia where they have their primary residence, the new home would be a weekend escape for our clients with their two young girls. They asked us to create our vision for an English Country House, using the surrounding landscape as our inspiration. The historic property dates back to the 1800’s and our clients wanted to avoid any major construction to the home, retaining the original character whenever possible. We leaned into the colonial details while adding modern touches to create a charming, livable home for a young family.

For our Society Pines project we created multi-functional spaces filled with saturated colors, bold patterns, and clever custom-designed solutions so that this historic Philadelphia row house could meet the needs of the young family who calls it home. The den was wrapped in a soft green to echo the elevated garden views which helped to drive the refined modern cabin aesthetic. A custom designed sofa that’s big enough for the whole family doubles as a sleeper when guest arrive. Wall-mounted side tables and sconces make the most of every square inch. A custom petite leather swivel chair balances the room and flexible stools can be moved for additional seating. A modern chandelier draws the eye up to the new wood plank ceiling that’s light enough to keep the space feeling open and airy.

As a rule, we always strive to honor the architectural history of each and every home. For our Germantown Dutch Colonial project, we designed two bathrooms full of historical references yet updated to meet the demands of modern life. Artful Row Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania designed by vestige HOME

With a definitive Modern English aesthetic, we affectionately call this project our #ArtfulEnglishRowhouse. The homeowners are both Art History professors for a major university and love design with historical references – a perfect jumping-off point. We were under a stay-at-home order due to COVID-19 when our clients reached out and we are so thankful they were up for zoom consultations so that we could still utilize our full design process and really drill down into what they needed from their space both functionally and aesthetically. The scope of this project centered on creating a large living room/library room in the front portion of the house, giving their existing kitchen a refresh and carving-out a dedicated eat-in space. We tapped into traditional English design – rich, layered materials that denote a sense of time, place and comfort – accented with modern touches.
