We are a team of architectural designers who are passionate for the architecture of simplicity.

Be it a new home designed for family living, a cabin in the woods providing respite from an overstimulating world, or a commercial space with a bold formal idea, our work celebrates the calm, the unassuming, and the lyrical.

Our simple aesthetic belies an underlying complexity. We blend the latest advances in building technology and sustainable building practices with honest materials and hand craftsmanship to create spaces that go beyond just providing shelter. They feed the soul.

Success comes after we hide the complexity, making it look simple and effortless (and by sharing a few laughs along the way).

Midcentury Modern Ranch

Five years after commissioning Framestudio to remodel their previous home, our clients contacted us about a dramatic hillside midcentury home with commanding views of Mount Diablo. In our design, we expanded on the good original elements and discarded the bad. We sought to create timeless interiors as if Henry Hill himself had envisioned them. See more

Esherick Mini-Mod

This diminutive weekend home, designed by Joseph Esherick and Associates in 1968, has democratic and ecological principles running in its very foundation. It is one of a series of demonstration homes commissioned by The Sea Ranch developer Oceanic Properties and an example of a well designed, ecologically sensitive weekend getaway home that would have been affordable to a family on a school teacher’s income. Poolhouse Addition

Our client tasked us with designing an addition to a suburban ranch house that would contain a swim spa and home gym.

Their single directive: Nothing else on or in the house was to be touched.

Our solution was inspired by modernist extensions to centuries-old historic buildings in Europe. We created a dramatic angular glass volume clad in weathered cedar, riffing off the imagery of yard fences commonly found in Los Altos. See more
