With her background in fine arts and over twenty years working in the field, Shirley Alexandra Watts has developed a personal design style using new and salvaged materials, plantsmanship and an ability to bring a surprising element of contemporary culture to a garden. Each project is an individual exploration of people, place and site. Her inspiration touches all elements of gardens from hardscape and layout, to custom furniture and lighting designs.
In 2012, Shirley curated 'Natural Discourse: Artists, Architects, Scientists & Poets in the Garden' an exhibit of 11 site specific installations at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden.
