Architect Visit: Nonya Grenader
November 17th, 2008
From Julie:
Houston-based Nonya Grenader teaches at Rice University and is principal of her own small firm. Her three most recent architectural projects received design awards from the American Institute of Architects; we especially admire her brilliant RBW Core House, a reinterpretation of the shotgun-style structures typical of Houston’s Third Ward. Grenader (working with Danny Samuels) inserted a new core (containing bath, kitchen, and mechanical elements) in an existing 500-square-foot house. The house will be used for visiting artists in residence.

I’m interested in what’s going on with the ceilings.

Having personally worked on the ceilings of this house while working on this project, I can tell you that the ceilings are basically entirely original with some minor patchwork (biggest patch was about 1′ x 1′ and used recycled wood from the house).
