Shopper’s Diary: Tortoise in LA
November 4th, 2008
From Sarah:
We were delighted when we learned that one of our favorite LA haunts, Tortoise on Abbot Kinney, had opened a second store nearby. The first store—now renamed Tortoise General Store—still focuses on well-designed, traditional Japanese items for the home, including such classics as Sori Yanagi’s birch handle flatware and Isamu Noguchi’s Akari lights, as well as more recent pieces (such as the Re Form Pot candle holder by Landscape Products shown below). The new, larger Tortoise store features furniture, vintage Japanese finds, and other unique artifacts discovered by owner Taku Shinomoto, as well as pieces from his own line of simple handcrafted furniture. Well worth a visit.
