August 26th, 2008
From Julie and Janet:
We love this ungirly girl’s room from the Rug Company, spotted on their website. Create the look with the following pieces.

Below: Start with the Rug Company’s Smarties Rug in Tibetan wool. $2,430 for the 6-by-9-foot rug.

Below: Source the White Steel PS cabinets for $99 at Ikea.

Below: Pink canvas window shades at PBteen.com are currently on sale, starting at $69; several sizes available.
Below: Keep the bed simple and affordable with the Eina Twin Bed Frame; $99 at Ikea. See our earlier post 10 Easy Pieces: Kids’ Modern Beds for more ideas.

Below: Make the bed with the TrueModern Starburst Sheet Set in pink and white; $129 at Bobby Berk Home.

Below: Colorful Painted Metal Pails for odds-and-ends storage from The Bucket Outlet; prices start at $3.85 and go up depending on size.

Below L: Manuella Design Pink Bunny, from Israeli artist Merav Flam; $49 at Conran USA. Below R: Jellycat Bear, $42 from Conran.

Below: The Miffy Plush Doll; $17.95 at Amazon.

A selection of ungirly pink paint shades:
Below L: Persian Pink from Porter Paints. Below R: Rose Silk Benjamin Moore

Below L: Philips Perfect Pink; Philip says, “This is the most subtle and complex pink I have ever seen. This color will never go sugary on you. It is perfect in a little girl’s room. This color allows you to do pink without fear of looking like your room has been wrapped in cotton candy.” Below R: Below: Farrow & Ball Pink Ground.

Miffy is owned by Dick Bruna, a Dutch graphic designer, not Sanrio. Some even argue that Sanrio stole the look.

The color looks awfully similar to the one in my own room: Mellow Pink by Benjamin Moore.
