Appliances: TurboChef Oven

The trend to professionalize the home kitchen continues: a recent entry is the TurboChef 30-inch double wall speedcook oven. This Charlie Trotter–approved workhorse uses what the company calls Airspeed Technology (normally only found in commercial restaurants) to cook up to 15 times faster than a conventional oven. Styled by ultra-hip, Silicon Valley–based Frog Design in a bid to merge “nostalgia and technology,” the unit features an appealing retro look. The $8,000 price tag is pure future shock, however.
