Steal This Look: Mill Valley Sleep Quarters
June 2nd, 2008
From Julie:
HOME Magazine featured our Mill Valley house in its June issue; the master suite addition measures all of 350 square feet, including the bathroom. Somehow our architect, Jerome Buttrick, managed to shoehorn it all in. (See the entire suite of images at Point Click Home; photos by the delightful Bay Area–based David Duncan Livingston.) First up, we deconstruct the bedroom.

Below: Garment-washed Egyptian cotton Due Quatrefoil Coverlet from LA-based Matteo Home; $245 (queen) from Design Public. Also see our post Fabrics & Linens: Ticking Stripes.

Below: Merete Curtains; 100 percent cotton, steel-grometed, self-hemming curtains; $39.99 a pair at Ikea.

Below: Celeste Round Shag Rug from Crate and Barrel; 6 feet in diameter; $399.

Below: Original BTC Stirrup Sconces. Source at your own peril; despite the aesthetic appeal, the odd UK wiring has never quite worked properly (potentially threatening spitting noises occasionally eminate).

Below: Another option is the Hector Switch Wall Light, also from Original BTC, in porcelain and ceramic; $175 at the Conran Shop Online.

Below: Don’t forget about the genius of Michael Thonet: Seek out a Thonet Cane Seat Stool as a bedside table; $269 at Bauhaus 2 Your House.

Below: Not visible in the photos, yet nevertheless an important component: Ikea’s Stranda Wardrobe, ideally suited for clothes storage. $299 at Ikea.

Below: Simple white wood painted bed frame (without headboard) from West Elm; prices range from $199 for a twin to $299 for a California King.

Below: I stow winter clothes in these PVC-lined cotton canvas Umbra Rectangular Crunch Baskets; $19.99 at the Container Store.

What an absolutely breathtaking home! Plus, your husband looks like Bill Pullman — I love Bill Pullman!
You’re a lucky woman …

The off-white (it’s actually called greige) coverlet is by Matteo Home and is available at designpublic.com. See the above link that I just added.
