Applicances: Sharp Microwave Drawer

From Sarah:

I recently spotted this at a friend’s house and thought it a brilliant solution: tucking the microwave below the counter, far out of sight. The standalone Sharp microwave drawer comes ready for installation and is available in a 24- and 30-inch size.  It’s approximately $800, depending on the model; for more information, go to sharpusa.com.

Architect Visit: Jorn Utzon

From Julie:

The Times of London calls this “probably the best modern house in the world.” Designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon, the mastermind of the Sydney Opera House, for his colleague Povl Ahm, the house is on the market for the first time since it was built in 1962—for £2.5 million. Constructed of pale-yellow London brick, rough and polished concrete, timber ceilings and fittings, teak windows, and white Swedish Hoganas floor tiles, it stands out among the “half-timbered horrors” of the Hertfordshire suburbs. Antiques & Vintage: Russell Woodard

From Julie:

A sharp-eyed reader emailed us about Russell Woodard’s Sculptura line of black enameled steel patio furniture from the early sixties. As usual, the originals are better than the copies. A set of six is $2,750 at wright20.com:

Steal This Look: Urban Outfitters

From Julie:

Last spring we became enamored of Jean Marie Massaud’s Heaven chair for Emu (below); we actually prefer the similar De La Tour wire mesh chair from Urban Oufitters (spotted on Hoping for Happy Accidents); $160 at urbanoutfitters.com (below bottom):

Storage: Sundance Wire Shelving

From Julie and Sarah:

Add wire shelving to our list of shared interests; we were delighted recently to discover the Sundance Catalog’s new line of vintage-looking iron wire shelving.
