Antiques & Vintage: Ernest Race

From Julie:

In last week’s post on Angie Lewin’s house, we ran a photo of an Ernest Race sofa. A bit of sleuthing turned up these designs. Go to architonic.com to read more about this celebrated midcentury UK designer:

Kitchen: The Pink Fridge

From Julie:

Couldn’t resist this photo from The Kitchen Designer: we like the pink Smeg (available for $1,999 at absolutehome.com) and the idea of using a coat rack in the kitchen for dish towels and aprons. We’d use the Hut AB foldable coat rack by Nils Holger Moormann featured on Hoping for Happy Accidents (also see our own 10 Easy Pieces: Coat Racks post):

Lighting: Energy-Saving Lightbulbs

From Julie:

Last Thursday’s House & Home section of the New York Times featured a useful article comparing energy-efficient light bulbs. A panel of staff members judged the lighting effects of 21 bulbs; the winner was Philips Halogena (”very warm, golden light”), which purports to last for two years and costs about $5. Go to nytimes.com to view the article.
