House Call: Angie Lewin

From Julie and Sarah:

While perusing the online site for Angie Lewin’s shop, St. Jude’s, we noticed photos of her Bloomsbury-esque village house—parts of which date to the 1600s—originally published in Country Living. “We love the Festival of Britain period, when designers were shaking off the sense of postwar austerity and introducing more playful shapes and forms, such as Lucienne Day with her abstract fabrics and Ernest Race with his neatly curved furniture,” says Angie’s husband Simon. Throughout the house, the couple uses fabrics designed by Angie Lewin, stjudes.co.uk, and pieces by artists such as Elizabeth Merriman (see her work at stjudesgallery.co.uk):

Furniture: Ercol Originals

From Julie:

Seeing photos of Angie Lewin’s dining room (featuring a suite of Ercol chairs) reminded us of our affection for midcentury Ercol furniture. Margaret Howell carries a few vintage pieces at her stores; go to margarethowell.co.uk. The venerable Ercol firm has also reissued a few pieces from the 1950s, designed by the company’s founder, Lucian Ercolani. The furniture is only available online from ercol.com:
