Best of ’07: Slow Design, House Numbers
January 1st, 2008
From Janet:
Another eco-friendly product from my new favorite manufacturer, Eleek. Are they Mission house numbers? Modern house numbers?
Cast in lead-free pewter, they would work equally well on a contemporary house or on a Greene & Greene bungalow.
Mackintosh House numbers, $170 for three; $227 for four at eleek.com:

Thanks for the vote of confidence on our Mackintosh house numbers. I want to clarify, however, that they are made of pewter, not aluminum. We cast lead-free pewter in-house at our facility, using 100% wind power to melt the pewter, heat and spin the casting machine, and to finish the pieces (we use 100% wind power for everything we do in-house!). We offer lots of other beautiful pieces in 100% recycled cast aluminum and 90% recycled cast bronze. We strive to make our products durable, easy-care and so cool and gorgeous that they will naturally stay out of the waste stream generation after generation. Now that’s sustainable!
